Is Cosmetic Dentistry a Luxury?

Where do cosmetic dental procedures fit into the new economics of 2009? Do only people of financial means invest in the appearance of their smiles?

Here’s the top reasons my own St Louis patients are having cosmetic dental procedures to restore and update their smiles:

Single and looking for a mate. Surprisingly, these individuals are not newly single.

Professional Image. For professionals, executives and any career that entails influencing or dealing with the public, having a nice smile is no longer just a competitive edge. It’s a necessity.

Health-conscious. Those particularly over fifty years of age … some into their seventies, who are also conscious of their diets, shy away from using medications, and who exercise are the same ones who understand the importance of maintaining the functionality of their teeth. These are people who do not want to have dentures in their older years.

So, is cosmetic dentistry a luxury? For many, that’s like asking if you can afford to exercise or eat right.
